CROWDS gathered to watch a mock mayor march through the streets of Woodstock before being dunked in the River Glyme as part of a tradition dating back 300 years.
Festivities began outside the Black Prince pub, in Manor Road, Old Woodstock, with a tug of war and other games on Saturday.
Andy Davey was elected mock mayor before the procession marched him to Woodstock town centre.
Mr Davey, whose father Joe Davey was mock mayor 25 years ago, met Woodstock’s deputy mayor Colin Carritt outside the Town Hall, before symbolically turning his back on him.
The festivities came to an end with the mock mayor being ceremonially dunked in the River Glyme.
The tradition dates back three centuries, when Woodstock and Old Woodstock were two separate parishes.
This year’s event raised about £1,000 for Woodstock’s youth club.
