THE families of servicemen and women fighting in Afghanistan will be treated to a fun day out.
About 160 wives, husbands and children will be visiting Cotswold Wildlife Park, near Burford, on Monday.
The visit has been organised by Oxfordshire County Council’s chairman, Hilary Hibbert Biles, as a thank you to the families who support our servicemen.
People from RAF Brize Norton, Abingdon’s Dalton Barracks and 11 EOD Didcot have all been invited.
Ms Biles said: “We all know about the amazing bravery, fortitude and total professionalism of our military personnel in Afghanistan.
“What is sometimes forgotten is that while our servicemen and women are working hard for Queen and country, their families are at home keenly waiting news from their loved ones.
“This event is in recognition and appreciation of the outstanding commitment to duties undertaken in Afghanistan and to the steadfastness of the families of those undertaking those duties.”
She added: “Oxfordshire is home to many service personnel and we at Oxfordshire County Council are delighted to be able to show our appreciation of serving troops and their families, in this small way.”
The park is donating a train ride for everyone as part of the event.
