A 13-year-old girl has been shot in the eye with a BB gun on Oxford's Barton estate.
The girl was in Underhill Circus at about 1.46pm on Monday when she was hit.
She was taken to the city's John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment.
Pc Jamie Thornton said: “Thankfully the girl did not sustain serious injuries to her eye.
"This type of incident is highly unusual for the estate and appears to be an isolated case.
"I would like to appeal for anyone who saw the incident, or has any information about it, to come forward and speak with me as soon as possible.
"Carrying and using this type of weapon in a public place is a serious offence and one that is taken very seriously by Thames Valley Police."
Anyone with information should contact police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
