A MOTHER whose last wish was to see her son married died on Tuesday after a long battle with lung cancer.
Last month, the Oxford Mail reported that Janet Hambridge, 60, had been able to celebrate the wedding of her son Trevor Francis, 31.
She said on the day: “I never thought I would live to see him settle down, so it was my one wish to see him get married before I went.”
The family had moved the wedding reception to her daughter Nicola Rowland’s home in Ashmole Place, Blackbird Leys, on July 27, because Ms Hambridge could not leave the house.
At 5pm that day, Ms Hambridge was taken into hospital with breathing problems.
She passed away at home on Tuesday, surrounded by her family.
Mrs Rowland said: “I just knew it would be the day we would lose her. So the whole family gathered around her and were with her when she died.”
She added: “My mum was very strong, a very independent person, who did everything herself without asking for help.
“She was just so loving, she absolutely worshipped her grandchildren and was very protective of them.”
A date for Ms Hambridge’s funeral is being arranged.
