Speeding has increased in Oxfordshire since the speed cameras were turned off, according to new research from Thames Valley’s Safer Roads Partnership.
Radar equipment was left in some cameras after the switch-off last week to continue monitoring the speed of passing vehicles over five days.
Two cameras, in Watlington Road, Cowley, Oxford, and on the A44 in Woodstock, were then analysed.
The equipment showed that in Cowley, 62 people were clocked driving over the speed limit, a rise of 88 per cent compared with what was usually recorded, and in Woodstock, 110 drivers were found to be travelling over the limit, which was a rise of 18 per cent.
