Sir – I would like to express my concern at the number of visiting groups of foreign children to the city centre of Oxford.
I have witnessed over the past several years, an increase in the number of groups of foreign children being shepherded around the city centre by local students.
I am acutely aware that this brings welcome tourism to the city and with that brings prosperity.
I do, however, object to the size of these groups of children, who do not seem to be aware that it is a working city and not a theme park. I do not see how any these groups can be properly managed let alone in a busy city centre.
I have become more and more frustrated with these groups walking four, five, six abreast along the pavement leaving absolutely nowhere to get past bar the busy road. I really do not know how someone with a pushchair or someone in a wheelchair manages to navigate their way around these masses. There does not seem any awareness of the general public by the local students in charge of these children.
I politely ask if I can get past and I am looked at like I have committed a heinous crime. It really puts me off visiting the city centre and I look forward to the winter months when it is less chaotic and I can once again see the pavement.
