A COLLEGE has given in to demands for a hairdressing course – and built a new salon in Witney. It will cost £50,000.

After countless calls from students at Abingdon and Witney College, in Holloway Road, for a hair care course, the new subject will be launched in September. And already, all 20 places have been snapped up.

Vicky Archibald, schools liaison officer at the college, said: “We just knew that there was a huge demand for it in the local area from school leavers. When prospective students came to ask about our beauty courses, they would ask, ‘Is there a hairdressing course?’”

On Friday the finishing touches were made to the new salon, which will complement the existing beauty salon on campus.

The new complex will mean that students can start NVQ courses in the subject in September.

Sian Cound, curriculum manager of hair and beauty at the college, said: “It’s really exciting as we have been waiting for this for a long time.”

After Christmas, members of the public will be invited to have their locks cut at the Hair Studio, as it will be known.
