A 20-year-old man has been given a police caution for criminal damage after he was spotted vandalising play equipment on CCTV in Witney.
The man, who lives in Witney, was seen vandalising a chain used to secure the swings in the Marriotts Walk play area last Tuesday.
Officers from the neighbourhood team tracked the man down using the CCTV footage and arrested him yesterday in connection with the criminal damage incident and gave him a police caution.
Sgt Tony Leach, of the Witney neighbourhood team, said: “Recently we have had a number of complaints regarding groups of people gathering in the play area near to Marriots Walk, particularly at night, and acting in an anti-social way.
“We carried out an operation in April to tackle this problem in partnership with West Oxfordshire District Council, and this saw a reduction in the number of incidents.
“However, we are continuing to take action to ensure this type of behaviour does not return, and have been locking the swing to its frame at night.
"At the moment this is taking place at 5pm on a Sunday due to resources, but we are looking to resolve this matter.
“Anti-social behaviour of any sort is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the neighbourhood team here in Witney.”
