Last year's Oxford United captain Adam Murray, has left the club by mutual consent, because he was unwilling to live closer to Oxford.
Murray, who missed the second half of last season following a back operation, has a home in Derby.
Last season, the midfielder moved his family down to within an hour of the club, but they were unable to settle and have moved back to Derby.
Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: "Adam has made a decision to put his family first, which as a family orientated club we fully understand and appreciate."
