Regarding the story about Abingdon Pool (last Wednesday’s Oxford Mail), I enjoy swimming in the pool nearly every day, as I have done for the past 43 summers, and have suffered no ill effects – indeed it helps to keep me young! However, I have been disturbed by the algal growth and would like to see the problem solved.
We know how to do it (it’s been done at Hinksey), and I’m very much hoping this will be funded promptly so that the problem doesn’t recur in future years. The pool has, in the past, been threatened with closure, but the correct approach will be to give it the loving care it deserves, so that we can keep this venerable treasure in pristine condition for all who enjoy using it.
In the past, the pool was maintained to a high standard and I'm sure they can do it again.
