FORMER police officers Kate Stalder and Phil May have tackled a few bunfights in their time.
Now they have swapped their police careers to make some dough running a cafe in Abingdon, inspired by the town’s ancient bun-throwing tradition.
Thousands of buns are thrown from the top of the old County Hall building in Market Place whenever there is a special Royal occasion or cause for national celebration.
Ms Stalder, 29, and Mr May, 28, who live in Faringdon, opened Throwing Buns last month near the County Hall and say they are doing a roaring trade.
“We have been rushed off our feet since we opened,” Ms Stalder said.
“Phil and I both fancied a change.”
- Abingdon Town Council spokesman Steve Rich said: “The next bun throwing is scheduled for 2012, to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, unless Prince William decides to get married before then.”
