TWO commuter trains were shot at as they passed through Steventon, near Abingdon.
British Transport Police were called to the village on Wednesday night after a passenger alerted a guard on one of the trains that someone in a field was using a gun to shoot at the trains.
It is not yet known what sort of weapon it was, but both trains suffered damage in the attacks.
Pc Sally Ward, of British Transport Police, said the incident happened at Stocks Lane level crossing in Steventon at about 7.45pm.
Pc Ward said: “A passenger on one of the trains alerted the guard that a window had been shot out by someone in a nearby field.
“One train had a broken windscreen while a passenger window was broken on the other train. There is double glazing on the train windows and in both cases only the outer skins were broken.
“It was lucky no-one was hurt.”
British Transport Police were called out, but no arrests have been made.
A spokesman for First Great Western said the 17.28 Swansea to Paddington and 18.15 Paddington to Swansea high-speed services were delayed. She added: “Both trains continued to their destinations at slightly reduced speeds and no-one was hurt.”
Anyone with information should call British Transport Police on 0800 405040.
