Sir – In response to your front-page story last week, there is a solution that would also help to reduce the impact of the Government’s planned reduction in local government funding in Oxfordshire.
Instead of agreeing ‘obscene’ pay rises, merge the city, district and county councils. A unitary authority would need one chief executive, one services director, and so on. What a huge financial saving could result!
