THIS is the moment a group of students yesterday broke the record for travelling 204 miles from Cambridge to Oxford – in a punt.
The Cambridge University crew of four took 12 days three hours and 57 minutes to punt 204 miles between the cities, battling with 113 locks and a mile-long tunnel.
Toby Dickens and Andy Marshall, both 21, Karl Williams, and Becky Kiff, both 20, set off from Cambridge at 10am on Saturday, June 19, and were met with cheers and applause yesterday as they finally docked at the Head of the Rover pub in Oxford, pictured, just before 2pm.
Mr Williams said: “It's been wonderful. The hardest part was the first day because it was uphill and against a stiff wind but we battled on.
“We’re looking forward to having a few drinks to celebrate.”
The raised more than £3,500 for forces charity Help for Heroes.
The four pals beat the previous record set in August 2004 14 days by three Oxford students.
