TRUST and love are the secrets of a successful marriage, according to an couple celebrating their golden wedding anniversary.
Pensioners Edna and Ronald Amos, from Aston, near Bampton, will toast 50 years of married life tomorrow.
The couple met in 1956 after being introduced by a friend.
Edna, 70, said: “Ronald was on National Service at the time. He was with a friend of mine, but her parents thought he was too old for her.
“A few weeks later he asked me out and we’ve been together ever since.”
The couple married in 1960 and have two children and five grandchildren.
Ronald, 73, was born and bred in Bampton and worked as an engineer until his retirement, while Edna moved to the area when she was 10.
She said they had always loved living in Oxfordshire.
Edna said that there were no quick fixes to a happy marriage, although trust and love were vital.
She said: “We’ve had our ups and downs like everyone else, but we didn’t run away from things.
“We trusted one another and stuck with it.”
The couple are planning to mark their anniversary with a celebratory cruise off the Canary Islands in September.
