TRIBUTES were paid yesterday to a Benson pub manager who died following a late-night argument.

Wayne Marshall, 42, ran the Crown Inn, in High Street, for the past year.

He collapsed following an argument on Sunday at about 10.50pm and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and was last night in police custody.

Results of a post mortem examination being carried out late yesterday were not released last night.

Colleague Mark Hemmings, said: “He was a gentle giant, very helpful, always did everything he was told to do.”

The pub is expected to be closed until tomorrow as a mark of respect to Mr Marshall, who it is believed had children and whose wife Pam runs a pub in Bristol.

Det Sgt Darren Cartwright said: “This was an isolated incident and the neighbourhood policing team will be carrying out high-visibility patrols.”
