John Monaghan (Oxford Mail, July 21), congratulates the organisers of the Pride Festival for such a well-run event but says it is time for a “Straight and Proud Festival”.
He says focusing on one side is heterophobic.
Well, I agree but I also think that in a few years it may be old-fashioned to stage events exclusively for gays in any case.
Pride marches seem more about maintaining a tradition than taking a stand nowadays.
Events such as Pride are a reaction against years of discrimination but there is no mistaking the fact that even in the past decade views have changed considerably.
