WELL done yet again to the city’s green campaigners.
Once more, members of Low Carbon West Oxford and their pals in the West Oxford Community Renewables company have proved they are leading the country in eco-friendly initiatives.
The groups’ latest scheme has seen 550 solar panels installed at Matthew Arnold school, and another batch of the electricity-generating devices placed on the roof of Aldi in Botley Road.
These are no mere drops in the ocean.
The electricity generated by the panels is the equivalent of the power needed to supply 45 homes, and the Matthew Arnold scheme is the largest of its type in the UK.
But the real beauty of this initiative is that it will generate about £50,000 for reinvestment in more green projects in the area.
That, combined with what’s left of a £800,000 grant from the Department of Energy and Climate Change, will ensure the west of the city has a very bright eco-friendly future ahead.
The brains behind these solar panels should be applauded for their ambition.
