A TEENAGER threatened shop staff with a knife before stealing three bottles of wine eight days after he was released from prison.

Jorden Davis, of Abingdon Road, Oxford, was jailed for almost two years after he admitted robbing JK News in Abingdon Road on January 27.

The 19-year-old was sentenced to 21 months in prison for robbery at Oxford Crown Court on Monday.

Davis had been released from prison just days before the attack after serving time for actual bodily harm.

Last night, shop owner Churher Singh said he was relieved Davis had been put behind bars.

But he said the incident had left him nervous when customers come into the shop. He said: “It’s very good that he has been jailed, he is a bad man. I remember when it happened, he showed a knife to me.

“He is a dangerous man. I’m very nervous in my shop all the time. When people come into the shop I’m nervous, I’m not happy.”

Dc Ben Yeats said: “It’s a despicable crime.

“Davis committed this offence less than two weeks after being released from prison which makes it all the more worse.

“He clearly has not learned his lesson from his previous offence.

“People who come out of prison and continue to commit crimes will be arrested promptly and put back before the courts. He added: “I’m pleased with the sentence, which reflects the nature of the offence that Davis committed.

“Oxford has seen a reduction in the levels of robberies, both to businesses and individuals, in the past year and this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated.

“This week Thames Valley Police has launched Operation Buzzard, an operation designed to crack down on robberies throughout the city, and I hope that those thinking about carrying out this sort of offence will see this punishment and have second thoughts.

“Thames Valley Police will continue to target these offenders and they will be brought before the courts.”
