What a lot of fuss people are making about the chippings the county council has been putting down on the roads.

I’m no expert, but it seems clear that this process adds a tough new surface to the roads, and also seals any cracks underneath, to protect from future frost, increasing the life of the road surface.

Would the complainers rather pay much more in taxes, and get more traffic disruption to have a different solution? They would complain about that too.

If they simply stick to the 20mph recommended speed limit in these areas while the road settles, then they shouldn’t suffer a tiny bit of tar here or there or miniscule mark left by a pea-sized stone.

I drive on these surfaces and have suffered no damage to my car whatsoever.
