Sir – I would like it to thank the residents, who live close to Dalton Barracks, for putting up with the noise etc from our yearly CAR-nival event held on June 12/13.
The proceeds from this event are shared between the Friends of Stowford and the Army Benevolent Fund.
The Friends of Stowford is a registered charity that supports adults with learning disabilities in supported living in Abingdon who used to live in the Stowford House Hostel. During the past 13 years the charity has raised over £75,000, mostly through the Motorsport Abingdon CAR-nival.
The latest project is the procurement of a £53,000 static caravan sited on a holiday park on the coast of Dorset This is to allow the residents to have a week’s holiday or a short break.
Without the support of these local residents the Motorsport CAR-nival would not be possible and these vulnerable adults would be more excluded from the normal activities of life which adds quality to our living. I would, therefore, like to thank all the residents around the airfield on behalf of these vulnerable people and their carers, for their loyal support in the past and hope that they can continue to support us in the future.
Ben Brown, Chairman, Friends of Stowford, Oxford
