Sir – I am writing to you about Temple Cowley Swimming Pool. I do hope the city council will reconsider its plan to close this pool and build a new one in Blackbird Leys.
My friends and I can cycle safely to Temple Cowley pool but the safe cycling route from the Iffley Road area to Blackbird Leys is not direct and is much longer.
Also Blackbird Leys has a small pool and leisure centre already, and Temple Cowley pool is next to a public library and opposite the Oxfordshire Record Office. So those are additional reasons for keeping it, as it’s in a good, easily-accessible area.
It’s also near several schools which may already, or could, use it for swimming lessons.
Finally, I think it would be money well spent to repair the diving boards. My friends and I would be happy to help raise funds for such repairs, as the diving boards are a big attraction for teenagers and would encourage lots more people to go to Temple Cowley pool.
