VILLAGERS were transported back to medieval times to celebrate their church’s 900th birthday.
St Peter’s Church, in Mill Lane, Alvescot, West Oxfordshire, hosted the birthday bash on Saturday.
Villagers wore period costumes to set the scene, while the Medieval Free Company, a living history group, recreated the lifestyle with a tented village.
Other Alvescot organisations took part in a market, craft stalls, games and feasting.
Organiser James Gervers said: “The fete was one of the key features of our ‘900-year church’ celebrations.”
It was the culmination of anniversary events held this year.
Other events held to mark the 900th year include a flower festival, quizzes, history walks and talks.
During the fete, visitors could see craftspeople working to produce everyday items, a cook preparing the midday meal, and a herbalist making a soothing ointment – Debs Davis with Mike Coxson sampled the potions on offer.
There was also music, a jester, falconry, and archery displays.
More than 800 visitors came for attractions such as the market, and beer sold from a tented tavern.
