A pensioner’s bet on Roger Federer winning Wimbledon seven times could net Oxfam £100,000.
Nicholas Newlife, of Rousham Road, Tackley, left his entire £314,000 estate to the charity when he died aged 69 in February last year.
The estate included a series of sporting bets, which included world number one tennis player Roger Federer winning Wimbledon seven times, a feat he could achieve this month.
The champion gave Oxfam staff a scare in the first round yesterday as Alejandro Falla took him to five sets.
Stuart Fowkes, a spokesman for Oxfam, said: “Now that Wimbledon has started we are watching the games very closely.
“Every ace Federer serves will bring him closer to winning a six-figure sum for the charity.”
Mr Newlife bet £1,520 on Federer to win Wimbledon’s men’s singles at least seven times before 2020 at 66/1, which would earn the charity £101,840 if he wins the final.
