HUNDREDS of customers have been told they are unlikely to get their deposits back after a furniture shop went into administration.
Customers of Woodworks Furniture in The Broadway, Didcot, have complained of months-long waits for furniture and appalling customer service as they battled to get their goods after paying deposits. Now people who ordered their furniture as far back as September are unlikely to see their money again.
The firm stopped trading in mid-May.
Administrators Nortons Recovery, from Reading, are now examining its accounts, and six staff at Woodworks’ three stores have been made redundant. The doors of the showroom, along with the Reading and Swindon branches, remain locked with furniture still on display inside.
David Tann, from Nortons, said that more than 300 customers across the three stores were thought to have paid deposits, averaging over £100 each, without receiving their furniture. And he warned that once trade creditors, staff wages and bank loans had been settled, there was unlikely to be any money left to pay them back.
Mr Tann said: “Understandably, we have an awful lot of people contacting us. It is still early days and we are trying to get the full details.”
