Broadcaster Ali Booker, who has breast cancer, has won an award for her radio show.

Ali Booker’s Cancer Diaries, which are aired during Jack FM’s breakfast show, was special programme of the year at the annual Arqiva Awards.

Miss Booker, 46, left, who is staying at an Oxford hospice, was too poorly to attend Thursday’s awards ceremony, which honours the cream of commercial radio.

However, she was treated to a virtual tour of the awards by staff from Jack FM, who filmed the event for her.

The mother-of-two from Wantage said: “I’m just stunned, this is the second award now and I can’t believe it. Two awards are far too greedy really.”

In May, she won the Sony Award’s silver commendation for best community programming.

Miss Booker overcame breast cancer in 2003, but the disease returned and in 2006 she was told the condition was inoperable after it spread to her lungs.

For the past 18 months, she has been recording weekly short audio diaries broadcast during the breakfast show.

Lucy Jones, who works at Banbury Sound, was also presented with an accolade for newcomer of the year at the Arqiva Awards.
