A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following in incident in Oxford last night.

The arrest came after an incident in Cowley Road at about 11.30pm, where the man is alleged to have assaulted a 21-year-old man outside the Hobgoblin pub.

Paramedics attended the incident and took the man to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, for treatment to his injuries, which included a split lip and broken teeth. He has since been sent home from hospital.

Det Con Claire Routledge said: “There were a lot of people out on the Cowley Road last night watching the England game and we would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed this incident.

“A group of men that were stood nearby when the incident happened immediately came to the man’s assistance and we would be particularly keen to speak to these men.

“One of the men is described as white and was wearing a yellow T-shirt.”

A 23-year-old man was arrested shortly after the incident and is still in police custody.
