A STEVENTON family raffled hand-made banners celebrating the World Cup to raise money for an aid trip to Africa.
Christine Hudson-Roberts and son Joshua, seven, pictured are off to Kenya next month to help build a school from scratch as part of a charity project organised by Battle Abbey School in Sussex.
To contribute towards their £4000 expenses, Mrs Hudson-Roberts, of Abingdon Road, Steventon, designed and hand-painted two four-foot-wide banners celebrating the South African tournament, which she raffled yesterday to raise over £500.
She said: “I thought the trip to Kenya would be good for Joshua to see the world is much bigger than he is and why we must give something back.
“There is absolutely nothing there at the moment – the children use the ground for paper and their fingers for pencils.”
