STAFF at a café in East Oxford are hoping for a World Cup upset tonight.
Algerian-born Laid Zerouali, 48, and fellow workers at the Shisha House, in Cowley Road, are looking forward to this evening’s Group C game against England in Cape Town.
With England only managing a 1-1 draw against the USA in their first game, manager Fabio Capello will be insisting on a Three Lions victory. But staff at the café are hoping Algeria can cause an upset.
Mr Zerouali said: “Football is full of surprises and anything can happen in 90 minutes.
“It’s quite possible we could lose 10-0, but all you need is one incident, perhaps a red card for an England player, and the game can start to change.
“We know England are a very good team, but that means Algeria has nothing to lose and all the pressure will be on England.
“Everyone at the restaurant is looking forward to the game and the World Cup is a great way of bringing people together.
“Oxford is a very multicultural place and there are lots of different fans supporting lots of different teams.”
Algeria lost their first game against Slovenia 1-0 so they will be looking to pick up some points.
A familiar face in the Algerian squad is Portsmouth’s Nadir Belhadj.
