A SUCCESSFUL clean-up project has set its sights on East Oxford.
The Oxford Cleaner, Greener campaign, run by Oxford City Council, aims to curb litter and fly tipping along with rubbish left in front gardens.
Next month, council officers, street wardens and police community support officers will be handing out on-the-spot fines to anyone caught dropping litter, discarding rubbish from a vehicle, throwing away cigarette ends or chewing gum as well as fly-posting and graffiti.
The campaign, backed by the Oxford Mail, will focus on Cowley Road, from The Plain to Magdalen Road.
Elizabeth Mills, of Divinity Road Residents’ Association, welcomed the blitz, but added: “It needs to happen again when the students are back.”
Council executive member Saj Malik said: “We want to spread the Cleaner, Greener message across our communities.”
