SIR John Vickers, the Warden of All Souls College, has been named as the chairman of the Independent Commission on Banking.
The commission will make recommendations to the Government on reforms to the banking system to try to prevent a repeat of the debt crisis which led to huge bailouts using taxpayers’ money. It is expected to report on its ideas by September next year.
Sir John was professor of political economy at Oxford University from 1991 to 2008 and is a former chief economist of the Bank of England.
