Guy Deutscher was born in Israel and now lives in Oxford. As you might expect from a mathematical linguist, he speaks many languages including Sumerian. In Through the Language Glass (Heinemann, £20) he looks at how we talk about colour, not just from the point of view of a linguist, but using science and neurology to throw new light on the way we think.
