Sir – I refer to the letter from P. Berry (June 10) in response to mine of June 3. The writer appears to have completely missed the point I am trying to make, then brands me a homophobic bigot for trying to protect the public purse. I could not care less if gay people fly rainbow flags, so long as it is not at public expense or wasting police time when they should be out and about maintaining law and order.
This country is bankrupt due to the public sector cost including its many quangos and we will sink under the burden if massive cuts are not made, the police are not immune from this.
The police diversity units in my view are quangos which are no longer fit for purpose and should be closed down, hopefully this will be the case if David Cameron keeps his promise.
