Sir – I would like to clarify two points about the new rubbish and recycling service which the Vale of White Horse District Council is introducing on October 4.
First, we do not intend to fine or penalise residents in any way if they put items in the wrong bin. When the new bins are delivered there will be an information pack inside the food caddy containing details of what goes in which bin, together with reminder stickers to put on their bins and a collection calendar. We understand this is a big change and if someone does make a mistake we will leave a note on their bin letting them know where they went wrong.
We wish to work in partnership with our residents and provide as much information and assistance as needed. Second, the vast majority of people will continue to put their new bins out for collection in exactly the same place as they do at the moment.
Our waste management team will be in touch with anyone whose collection point is changing.
The new service is a real opportunity for people to recycle more and send less rubbish to landfill. We all have a responsibility to reduce the amount of waste we produce and this new service will make it so much easier for people to do their bit.
