CCTV has helped police arrest a man just days after cameras were installed in Carterton.
A man was arrested at 9.30pm on Wednesday in Alvescot Road, on suspicion of causing public disorder.
On Friday, June 4, four cameras were unveiled around Carterton town centre.
Two are on Black Bourton Road — one outside the Co-op and one at the junction with Milestone Road — and others at The Precinct and Alvescot Road car park.
One camera can be moved to trouble spots.
Steven Rushmer has been charged and remanded for breaching an anti-social behaviour order (Asbo).
The 46-year-old received a two-year countywide Asbo in 2008 for persistent drunk and disorderly behaviour.
Verena Hunt, cabinet member for community safety at West Oxfordshire District Council, said: “This incident shows how valuable CCTV is in improving public safety and how well it’s already working in the town, as the police were able to respond quickly before the situation escalated.”
Carterton mayor Norman MacRae said: “Cameras will never replace the officers on the beat but they do play a valuable role.”
No date has yet been set for Rushmer to appear in court.
West Oxfordshire District Council paid £80,000 to install the cameras.
