DEVELOPERS hoping to build homes in Wallingford say they are unable to proceed until the Government outlines its new planning policy.
One developer told the Oxford Mail the Government’s decision to axe housing targets had created “a real mess”.
Yesterday, a Department for Communities and Local Government spokesman said new policy announcements would be made “sooner rather than later”, with any legislative changes scheduled to be passed this autumn.
The three firms which want to build in the town – Prupim, the development arm of insurers Prudential, Berkeley Homes and Wates – all say they want to continue with projects.
Prupim spokesman Nick Webb said: “Everyone is waiting for the planning policy announcement from central Government over the next week or so.
“The key thing is not to end up with a hiatus with everyone waiting for the Government to set the new policy, but nothing happening.”
He said the firm was prepared for more consultation in keeping with the Government’s ‘bottom up’ approach.
