PUPILS at an Oxford primary school are getting physical after the completion of a £250,000 facelift of their gym.
The work at Windmill Primary School in Headington has seen the building get a thorough overhaul, inisde and out The building has been reclad and windows replaced, while inside the old changing rooms and storage rooms were knocked through to create a new dance and drama studio, kitchen, disabled toilet and changing rooms.
The gym area was also given a thorough makeover, with new floor, wall bars and gym equipment.
Headteacher Lynn Knapp said: “It makes such a huge difference in terms of providing their PE lessons and being a healthy school.
“We’re quite a dance and drama oriented school so it gives us opportunity to improve those things as well.
“Three years ago it was just falling down, it was like an old dilapidated shed. This is a dream come true.”
Oxford United’s community officer Peter Rhoades-Brown officially opened the refurbished building, before the children took part in an interhouse games championship before enjoying a celebration picnic.
