FIREFIGHTERS from Oxford climbed the height of Mount Everest to raise £2,673 for the Fire Fighters Charity.
Seven firefighters from Blue Watch at The Slade Fire Station took part in the stunt in Cornmarket Street on Saturday.
They climbed two 33ft ladders for six-and-a-half hours until they had climbed the equivalent height of the highest mountain in the world — 29,029ft.
Lewis Sigsworth, one of the firefighters who took part in the charity climb, said: “Shoppers gave very generously to the charity, which raises funds for injured firefighters.
“Shops also made sure we stayed refreshed by giving us plenty of drinks. We climbed the ladders flat out for six-and-a-half hours to raise money for a great cause.”
