HUNDREDS of people lined the streets of Bicester to welcome the town’s new mayor into office today.
The Air Training Corps’ band led the annual Civic Parade through the Market Square, as residents looked on from the pavements.
The cadets were followed by soldiers from the Ambrosden-based 23 Pioneer Regiment, followed by Brownies, Guides and Cubs.
The new mayor, retired businessman Richard Mould, 67, who took the salute, was elected to Bicester Town Council in 2008 and represents Bicester West ward.
He said he wanted to place community at the heart of his mayoral year.
He added: “The service went very well and was very well supported by the community.
“So far I have been very busy as mayor, with lots of things going on.
“I’m looking forward to my year in office, I think you’ve got to make the most of it while it lasts and have a good time.”
The parade was followed by a celebration in Garth Park.
