BIG brother has arrived in Carterton with the installation of the town’s first CCTV cameras.
Two cameras have been installed in Black Bourton Road – outside the Co-op and at the junction with Milestone Road – with two more at The Precinct and Alvescot Road car park.
Carterton neighbourhood inspector Mark Johns said: “CCTV acts as a deterrent and also provides reassurance to the community.”
West Oxfordshire District Council paid £80,000 to install the cameras, which will be maintained by annual contributions from Carterton Town Council, RAF Brize Norton, the district council and Thames Valley Police.
Verean Hunt, cabinet member for community safety, said: “West Oxfordshire is a low crime area and we have seen how successful CCTV has been in Witney – we expect a similar effect for Carterton.”
