George Littlemore came agonisingly close to setting a new single leg world record in their home Premier Section clash with Three Pigeons.
They looked set to pass Cricketers' milestone of 41 in leg two after their first seven players scored a remarkable 39 out of 42.
But the nerves got to anchorman Willy Waite and he could only manage a single doll to leave his side on 40.
Leg two was the highlight of an outstanding team performance as they clanged off a total of 110 dolls in their 3-0 victory.
League spokesman Andy Beal said: "Willy had thrown well in the first leg, so it was very unfortunate for him.
"If he had managed three or four in the second leg, it would have been a record that may never have been beaten, but it wasn't to be.
"Cricketers have scored 41 three times, but the last one was over ten years ago.
"It is the best leg score out of any league, so it is a world record."
Having secured the first leg 33-29, George began leg two with scores of 6/5/5/6/6/6/5.
Waite's single made it 40-28 and they claimed the final leg with a 37-27 victory.
Steve Walton (6-6-4) and Kevin Giles (5-6-5) both hit 16, with Francis Hillier and Dave Sawyer claiming 15 dolls each.
In all, George hit a mammoth six sixes and eight fives, while Bernie Huckin 4-6-4 and Mick Phipps 5-5-4 replied with 14s for Three Pigeons.
