WANTED: a temporary home for Aladdin’s laundry and Macbeth’s castle.
A Didcot drama group is on the hunt for somewhere to store sets while the town’s Civic Hall is being renovated.
The Phoenix Drama Group has staged productions at the hall since 1983, storing their large wooden sets there for the last decade.
Now they need to find someone who can look after the eight 3ft by 10ft backdrops from the end of June until March next year.
Theatre spokesman Alison Driscoll said: “We cannot afford commercial storage, and we do not know where to put them.
“We have used them for so many of our performances – they have been a castle for Macbeth, Aladdin’s laundry, and numerous palaces.”
Along with the sets, the group needs to find a home for its props, costumes, sound and lighting equipment, tools and paint.
The group has yet to confirm an alternative venue for its plays while the town council’s £1.3m renovation of the Civic Hall is under way.
They need to find somewhere to both rehearse and perform both their September Comedy Revue and January’s annual pantomime, which regularly sells out. Next year’s production will be Mother Goose.
Over the Bank Holiday weekend, the drama group is performing two one-act plays, Dario Fo’s The Accidental Death of an Anarchist and AA Milne’s The Man in The Bowler Hat, as part of the Didcot Drama Festival at the Cornerstone Arts Centre.
