Sir – The proposal to improve the roundabout at Heyford Hill is most welcome, but I hope the designers will remember cyclists and pedestrians, for whom it is currently a terrifying experience to reach Sainsbury’s.
The ‘empty land’ at the side of the eastbound carriageway, which is proposed as the site of an extra lane, is in fact a busy cycle track and walkway, part of a route that links East with South Oxford and beyond.
And while planners are thinking about the ring road, could they please take a look at the turn-off to Kennington? For a cyclist continuing up towards Boars Hill it is a nightmare.
To see cars approaching the junction at speed from both sides, it would be necessary to turn the head through more than 180 degrees to the right while keeping an eye out to the left — an impossible contortion! An island in the middle and a gap in the crash barrier would make it a great deal safer.
