Sir – Whilst waiting for a delayed arrival of tourists to Oxford, in half an hour I counted nine coaches disgorging around 45 passengers each and certainly the same amount departing.
It does not need a mathematician to work out the logistics of foreigners to our fabulous city. Before departing at 5.30pm the other evening, my group wanted to use the public facilities near to the Martyrs’ Memorial — closed, and the Gents’ permanently!
A few days before, I took a small, but elderly group of Americans into the town hall to use the loos, before their specially arranged departure from St Aldate’s, only to be confronted by an over zealous receptionist saying that the Town Hall loos were not public lavatories, needless to say I took no notice.
I would appeal to the city council to consider what can be done to alleviate this dire problem!
