OUR local MP and new Prime Minister David Cameron tells us that one of his priorities will be to repeal the hunting ban because “...it does not work and is difficult to enforce...”.
The same could be said about the use of mobile telephones while driving, the use of Class A drugs, dog and cock-fighting and many more offences which fit this category. So is he to repeal the laws prohibiting these also?
If the hunting ban is repealed it will be seen as pandering to those people who are unable to enjoy the countryside without feeling an irrepressible and atavistic urge to kill something.
Supporters of the killing of wild animals for fun say that countryside traditions must be maintained. So does this mean that bear-baiting is next on the list to be restored?
