Has Ian Hudspeth any idea about Oxford, with his strange suggestion of a bus lane between Abingdon Road and Heyford Hill (Oxford Mail, May 20)?
My garden backs onto this stretch of road and I have lived here for 43 years – but I have never seen a bus stopping anywhere along this road.
There are no bus routes here.
The only time I have seen a bus using the road is between midnight and 2.30 am, taking a short cut back to the depot at Cowley.
In 1966 when two groups of self-built homes were erected (including mine), and there was not even half the volume of traffic using the road, we requested from the council a service road to be installed, like the one at Botley, so we could gain access to our properties without having to travel through the Rose Hill estate.
However, we were told this would be too dangerous and not possible.
Yet now, it seems, Sainsbury’s, with all its money, can get what it wants – which makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
With all the new houses being built on Rose Hill, and another 200 or so cars entering the estate, maybe it’s time to re-consider the service road and incorporate it with the scheduled work.
Come on you councillors: do something sensible for a change.
