SANDFORD Lock has been closed for three days so the Environment Agency can fix a faulty lock gate.
The agency closed the lock at Sandford-on-Thames at 8am today after a routine inspection by divers discovered the problem five days ago.
The faulty lock had meant there could only be one lock opening upstream and downstream per hour.
The agency will carry out a temporary repair which will see them form a watertight dam and pump water out of the lock until it is dry.
A floating crane will be used to build the dam and as the water level is lowered fish will be rescued and be removed into the main river.
The temporary repair is being carried out quickly to make sure the lock can be used during the busy summer months before the agency works out a permanent solution during the winter months when there are fewer boaters on the river.
The lock is due to reopen on Saturday morning.
