T Siret probably has never read The Sun and almost certainly doesn’t meet many working class people, judging by his letter in which he makes the laughable claim that the Lib Dems lost out on vast numbers of seats because they weren’t sufficiently opposed to nuclear missiles (Oxford Mail, May 11).

His phrase “Even I could not have predicted such a collapse in the Lib Dem vote” left me chuckling. What a pompous statement.

He went on to say: “I’m still amazed, though not terribly surprised, by the amount of working people who vote Tory. Still, if that great political news journal The Sun says so, I suppose they will!”

I wonder why he sent his snooty thoughts to the Oxford Mail, which (horrors!) has some readers who belong to the working classes. Perhaps he intended to post it to your well-heeled sister paper the Oxford Times, but got confused?
