I would like to respond to Ian Rosser’s letter (May 21) in connection with putting additional tax on petrol.
Where have you been for the past year? Do you realise we are paying £6 a gallon for unleaded and more for diesel?
Do you realise that inflation has gone up and one of the contributing facts is the price of petrol and diesel? Do you realise that if petrol and diesel go up again everything else will go up?
Just over a year ago there was uproar that we were going to pay £1 per litre, which equated to £5 per gallon. And now we are paying £6 per gallon. Petrol should be reduced by dropping the tax levied on it and putting additional taxes on luxuries, not necessities.
I know motorbikes don't use much petrol, but this ‘I’m all right Jack’ attitude does nothing for the rest of the community.
