PARIS, Berlin, Witney: that was the Prime Minister’s diary as he completed his first full week as leader of the country.

David Cameron returned on Friday night for his first constituency surgery after a whistle-stop tour of Europe.

It was an opportunity for the residents he serves as MP to raise their issues, and the first constituent to take up the offer was Barry Ingleton, from Blakes Avenue, Witney.

A long list of residents had appointments to speak to Mr Cameron, who touched down at Oxford airport just an hour before the surgery.

At lunchtime, he had been in talks with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, and the previous evening he dined with President Sarkozy in Paris.

But, less than three hours after leaving Berlin, Mr Cameron was back in the West Oxfordshire Conservative Association’s office on Witney’s High Street.

Mr Cameron said: “Witney has not lost an MP, it has gained a Prime Minister.”

Despite his PM duties, he is committed to his MP role.

He said: “I will be here very regularly. My office is working extremely well answering emails, phone calls and letters and I will be holding regular surgeries.”
